Weston: 3 Years

These past 3 years have been so much fun and they've gone way too fast... although I'm really enjoying Weston being more and more independent. I keep telling him that I want him to stop growing and he replies with, "No, I want to get bigger and bigger and bigger like daddy." Cue the sobs. Sometimes I miss getting to spend 1:1 time with him because it's in those quiet moments where he'll just talk and talk and tell you all the little things in his head. Some of his interests are trains, railroad crossing signs, anything construction, digging holes, playing cake man or pizza man {pretty much anything pretend}, building tunnels, and being with his friends. He and his friends love to play pretend and they're always making a big batch of soup outside {water in a huge tupperware container full of leaves and bark}. He's learning how to say prayers by himself {"Dear Heavenly Father, bless our food, amen"} and he never strays from these 3 lines. Potty training is coming along {ever so slowly} but we're getting there. His favorite thing in the whole world is his puppy dog who's he's named Baby and his blue blanket which he calls blue blanky. He absolutely loves books- he'll sit and look at books on his own and would have 100 books a day read to him if it worked out. I love you Weston... it's been the best 3 years. 

Weston had a big construction birthday party a couple of days before his birthday. On his birthday we had a family party and he chose ice cream cake. Watching him blow out these candles was sooooo  extremely funny. That green candle just wasn't going to give up and neither was Weston. 

Weston's 3rd {Construction} Birthday Party

Weston was sooooo excited for his party. We had to make a countdown calendar because there were LOTS of questions as to when the party was happening. He woke up to a decorated house and a big ol' present {a basketball hoop}. It was so fun seeing how excited he was for everything. 

I really need to learn how to do collages so until then.... here are a million pictures to scroll through. 

Every party, no lie, I mess up on the first round of the cake. It's my new norm and I'm just starting to accept that this happens every time. Grrr. Around 3 am the first cake turned out to be a disaster... but it all worked out and I think the end cake turned out really cute. Weston was obsessed with it.

We had a little meeting to get the crew outfitted and ready for their big jobs. 

They hammered nails, 

dug in the sand, 

helped construct a big cardboard house, 

built towers, 

ate pulled pork sandwiches for lunch, 

and of course ate cake. Weston takes his candle blowing very seriously! Three happy years... we love you Weston. It was a perfect day, except for not getting a group picture of the kids. {Many thanks to my mom who flew in to help me party prep. And to Cam who took pictures during the party. Love you both.}

Weston's 2nd {Monster} Birthday Party

Weston was really into monsters around his birthday so a monster party was the only way to go. We had it at a park because we all know my back yard is the size of a postage stamp. I was hoping everything would turn out ok because I was still recovering from my c-section, transporting everything, the boys, etc. etc. but everything all worked out. Everything always does... I don't know why I waste time stressing out. We had 12 kiddos and their families there and it was such a fun day. Weston still talks about his party, friends, cake, and candles. Happy 2nd birthday Weston! 

We served breakfast and it turned out delish. We had a crepe bar {topped with berries, bananas, lemon curd, nutella, powdered sugar & lemons, and a cream cheese spread}, mini quiches, watermelon, monkey bread, yogurt, juices and milk.

 

 

 

The party was chill because most of our group were two year olds. I did have a few tables set up with simple activities: bubbles, monster coloring pages, and monster masks to glue together.

And because we hadn't had enough sugar yet we topped it all off with vanilla cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting. I'm still disgusted with the amount of butter in buttercream frosting. Never again.

Everyone left with a monster beach ball. Thanks to everyone who helped Weston celebrate his second birthday. I'm totally bummed I didn't get many pictures of his friends but they all moved too fast for me that day. We missed our families but we have such great friends!

Happy second birthday

to one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

Tomorrow is his monster birthday party and Weston is so excited. Until then we'll celebrate with waffles (out of a box) and nutella. It's a close second to cake...

Weston's 1st {Pirate} Birthday Party

We planned Weston's 1st birthday party in Utah because we were able to have both sides of our families there, plus some friends. Yay! It was so much fun to see everyone and we were so grateful to have everyone there.

The party went down in pirate style...

I kept the decor to a minimum since I was flying alone and I only have so many arms. My mom was awesome and helped me cook and get everything ready. I take no credit for the amazing BBQ beef sandwiches... those were all my mom.

We went a little over board on the desserts... but hey, it's a party. I grew up on home made cherry chocolate ice cream so that was a must. Mostly because my mom was there and I have no idea how to make homemade ice cream.

This is pretty much the only shot I got of our family and friends. Sometimes I'm too busy taking pictures I forget to just enjoy the moment. I didn't want to do that at his party so I put the camera away. In my next life I'll have a photographer travel everywhere with me :)

Weston's cake turned out darling but the fondant made it impossible for him to dig into. Oops, didn't think of that.

He's all into utensils now so he loved digging in with a spoon.

He's such a toddler now... I can't stand it!
