Peeps In Banner Form

Every year I find myself writing about peeps... it's a sickness. This year, since I'm on my post-baby diet {when can I stop claiming that?}, I decided I wasn't even going to buy a box. Instead, I'd craft my annual peep addiction.

My peeps banner made its first appearance at the easter egg hunt my neighbor and I hosted on Friday. Why I stayed up till 2 am sewing a banner for 1-5 year olds I'll never know.

After the hunt, ironically enough, my friend brought me over a 3 pack of peeps to say, "Thanks." And now I'm thanking her for the extra 30 minutes of cardio I had to do for downing 15 peeps in one day.

Thanksgiving Prep

I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year {gulp}. Considering that I've never made anything to do with Thanksgiving meal... it should be interesting. Say a prayer for my guests.

Anyhow... I bought my first turkey and roasting pan, rounded up some great recipes, divvied up some of the cooking {because I'm not going to screw up on the rolls or pies}, and now I've moved onto the important things... the place settings and table decorations.

And I love the fabric I used for the napkins but I'll NEVER make my own napkins again. What a pain. If I added up the cost for the fabric and my time I could have bought 50 napkins instead of having 6 homemade ones.

Halloween {2009}

Halloween was so fun this year... it's way more fun to dress up a baby than yourself. Plus, my scrubs needed a break this year {you can only wear them so many years in a row}.

I slaved away on this owl costume because Weston's favorite thing to say all the time about a month ago was "Whooooo." And then Halloween comes and he won't udder even a single "Whoooo." Whooo or no whoooo, he was still pretty cute.

No trick-o-treating for us... but it was fun to pass out candy, hang out in the neighborhood {which was packed with kids}, see all the cute costumes, and visit with some friends.

My mom was in town for the weekend. It was fun to have her here again, especially over a holiday.

Pillows: DIY style

I'm OBSESSED with switching out my pillows and decorations for each season and holiday. I seriously look forward to it and that is why I loved my Pottery Barn job. Loved, as in past tense. I decided that my discount was not worth being away from my babe 2-3 times per week because I'd be too sad to leave him that often. Plus I'd have to find babysitters because of Cameron's crazy work and school schedule.

I won't say I'm not going to miss it because I kind of do. And I REALLY miss the discount. Not to mention my mall discount when I bought diet cokes at Mrs. Fields. Mrs. Field's diet cokes are about as good as McDonald's by the way.

No discounts mean more DIY's. Look what I made for $15 (because I already had the inserts).

Octopus Onsie

I can't help it, I'm obsessed with appliquéing onsies.

The Bouncer

We had some friends give us their old bouncer... being a little bummed out that he hated the swing I was pretty sure he would hate the bouncer too. WRONG. He is obsessed. The only problem is that is looked like this:

There was a whole lot of rain forest going on in that bouncer. In my dreams I would make a pattern and sew a cover. In my real life I ask my mom to make a pattern and sew a cover.

Much better, I love it. She did a fabulous job, thanks mom!

Crinkle Taggy

My mom's been in town and that means we've been crafting up a storm. She takes on the hard projects {more to come} and I take on the easy ones. Here's the funny part... I complete 1 easy project in the same amount of time my mom completes 2 hard ones.

I followed this tutorial to make this crinkle taggy.

Rag Quilt Letters

I'm dying right now. I think these rag quilt letters are the cutest things I've ever seen. Since I'm not going back to work in the fall I'm making a list of all the things I want to do to fill my time... these made the list. Here's the tutorial.

Turning Over A New Leaf

Since no pictures will be posted until I stop looking like Rihanna, I've resorted to posting about some of my goals. I'm turning over a new leaf... I'm starting to bake and sew. 

I'm ok at cooking... but when it comes to baking... it's a big fat NOT OK. Somehow I always think I can substitute when you just really shouldn't substitute and things just never turn out right. So here's where the new leaf comes in... cinnamon rolls are being baked this Sunday while we are home for General Conference {love this Sunday}. Don't call me, I will be too busy stressing out. 

Now for the sewing. I think it is an unwritten rule somewhere that new babies should have homemade quilts and blankets. My mom has got me covered on the blankets and I'm taking on the quilt. Let's keep in mind I haven't sewed in about 12 years (except for my guitar onesie I just made) so there have been numerous steps to take: 

1. Recruit Emily for my private lessons... I bet she is hating that she agreed to this {Remember I'm bringing you homemade oreos in return. I haven't forgotten.}

2. Buy fabric {Elaine's Quilt Block in Utah is the bomb}

3. Buy everything to cut and measure the fabric {this is not cheap}

4. Buy a sewing machine

I've done steps 1-3 and now I just have to get the machine. Turns out I could have bought 100 blankets for the cost of this one homemade one. But let's be honest, homemade is not cheap and not easy {at least for me}. My rule of thumb in the past has been, "If you can make it, you can buy it." I always went for the "buy it" and now I'm not sure what has happened?
